PH 269 'Canterbury Bell', the Plymouth Trawler smack run aground behind Penzance Extension Pier, Friday 24 April 1891. (Cornishman 30 April 1891). The 'Canterbury Bell' PH269 was built in Rye, Sussex by J C Hoad for George Coles, smack owner, of 4 Hoe Gardens, Plymouth in 1878. She was 75.2ft registered length with 20.2ft beam and 9.25ft depth of hold. She grounded leaving Penzance Harbour on 24 April 1891. An anchor was put out by 'hobblers' and she warped off using her steam capstan. She had already been dismasted during the Blizzard of 1891 (9th to 13th March) at a cost of £120 in repairs. No doubt the cost of additional repairs contributed to her sale to Calstock owners as a coaster in June 1891. She was wrecked at Wemyss Bay, Fife on 29 December 1908.
