Item: The Plymouth smack 'Canterbury Bell' aground at the back of Penzance Lighthouse Pier.
Description: The Plymouth smack 'Canterbury Bell' PH269 (1878-1908) aground at the back of Penzance Lighthouse Pier 24 April 1891. Ropes were put out by small boats and she was salvaged. The smack was dismasted during the blizzard of March 1891 and repaired at a cost of £120. Built by J.C Hoad, Rye, 1878 for Hull; c 1893 converted to a coaster; 29.12.1908 wrecked Wemyss Bay, Fife.
