A space for all

Built in 1865, as the home of the Branwell family. Penlee House is home to many paintings by members of the Newlyn School. It is also home to the Penzance Natural History and Antiquarian Society collection.

In this richly illustrated online talk, Rob Airey will introduce the long creative career of the Scottish-born, St Ives based artist Wilhelmina Barns-Graham (1912-2004), currently featured in the Making her Mark exhibition at Penlee House, focusing on both her travels into landscape and her journey to abstraction.

For over 9 years, Rob Airey has been the Director of the Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Trust, a single artist charitable Trust which manages the legacy of the leading 20th century British artist. The Trust also funds residencies and bursaries for artists at different stages of their careers.

Following an MA at the Courtauld Institute, Rob pursued an interest in post-war British Art, first in Collections Management at the Tate and the Henry Moore Foundation, and then in exhibitions and collections curatorial roles at the Royal Cornwall Museum, Truro, and the Hatton Gallery in Newcastle upon Tyne.
