Lamorna Birch died in January 1955 and an exhibition of his paintings, owned by Austin Wormleighton the author of ‘A Painter Laureate’, is on in the Penlee Gallery, Penzance from October 2025 marking the 70th. Anniversary of Birch’s death.
Samuel John Birch was the founder and father figure of the Lamorna colony of artists and writers in the south west corner of England. He adopted the additional name of Lamorna when he settled in the Cove and worked there for nearly 60 years as a painter. His work has been sold all around the world.
