Identification
Item: The Airport. St Mary's. Isles of Scilly.
Description: A view of the control tower and a waiting plane with people presumably preparing to board it. The plane is a Dragon Rapide DH89 named 'Lord Baden Powell' registration G-AKZB operated by BEA and was joined by two other similar planes in 1958 to provide the Lands End to Isles of Scilly Air Service. The service continued until 1964 when the helicopters took over. This particular plan crashed at the airfield in 1961, when it hit a post in fog. The pilot, Captain T.M. Boyd and passengers were unhurt.
