Identification
Item: "Three Brothers of Grugith", Goonhilly Downs, Cornwall.
Description: As drawn by William Borlase and first recorded in 1872. The stones are 80in long, 30in high with a 20in gap between them. They are thought to weigh 1/4 of a ton and are usually surrounded by gorse. The natural formation was used for a burial chamber. Legend has it that St Keverne was chasing St Just who had stolen his drinking cup and threw these stones at him. The stones are rumoured to move at night but always reappear in their original formation by morning.
