Identification
Item: Boskednan Hut, near Mulfra Hill, Cornwall.
Description: A photograph of Boskednan Hut, which is described by Borlaise and Henderson as a "Fogou type building common in West Cornwall". It is difficult to date, possibly 400-500 years old. The central chamber is roughly 8ft by 6ft and 7ft high. At the eastern end there is another low entrance of 3ft to 4ft high leading to a tunnel which is 13ft long opening into a large chamber 16ft in length, 3ft high and 4ft wide. Behind the hut are the remains of mine waste and the ding dang engine house. It is possible that this hut was a store for mining materials and explosives and there have also been animal bones found inside. Source: Cornish Fogous by Evelin Clark, 1961.
