Item: Chysauster, Gulval Parish, Cornwall.
Description: A view of Chysauster, an ancient village situated high to the north west of Gulval Village on the westerns slopes of Gulval Downs. It is believed to have been occupied by the Celts from the first or second century BC until abandoned in AD 300. The streets of houses surrounded by garden terraces set in a large system of small fields suggest that some agriculture was taking place at this time. Fragments of pottery found there are said to be Roman in form but locally made. The village site is open to the public in the summer.
