Item: Penzance Promenade storm damage
Description: A photograph of the Penzance Promenade looking towards the Queens Hotel, with the large hole created by the recent storm in the foreground. Under the Borough Surveyor, Mr H. Small, the gap had been filled with sandbags, clay, stone and rubble, but gales and a high sea on 21 February 1895, shook the ground and took 20ft of the wall and railings into the sea followed by several hundreds of tons of soil, leaving a 60ft by 40ft hole.
