Item: Madron Baptistery and Holy Well, Madron, Cornwall.
Description: Madron Well is reputed never to run dry. Until a few years ago, water was piped across the fields to Madron and Heamoor and supplied water to the Old Reservoir at the top of Causeway Head and on to the fountain in Morrab Gardens. It is thought that the Baptistery was built over the stream by St Maddern in the 5th or 6th century and on the first Sunday in May a service is still held in he afternoon for members of the Church and Chapel. Some people still tie rags and ribbons in the trees around the well and make wishes.
