Description: A photograph looking into Ballowall Grave, near St Just (NG 356312). Legend has it that 'small people' would dance around the barrow at moonlight. This could be a folk memory of sacred rituals once performed by megalithic builders. In 1878-9, W.C. Borlase wrote that the cists in the central chamber contained urns with cremated bones of the Middle Bronze Age, perhaps by people who still held Megalithic customs. The barrow consists of a large closed chamber within a central dome surrounded by a later cairn ring. The stone structure was unique. As well as cists, there was a 'T' shaped pit. The central dome is 37ft across and 10ft high. Source: "Belorion" Craig Weatherhill 1981.
