Item: Boscawen-un Circle (Nine Maidens), St Buryan, Cornwall.
Description: A photograph of Boscawen-un Circle, also known as the Nine Maidens, St Buryan, situated at NG reference 412274. According to 'Belerion' by Craig Weatherhill (1981) "19 upright stones from 3ft to 4.5ft high in an ellipse of 71ft to 80ft. The off-centre stone is 8ft high, leaning to the north-east where a pair of flat slabs lie on the edge of the circle. Dr Borlase thought these were part of a burial cist. One stone is pure quartz; 18 are of granite. It is thought that the circle was used in the Dark Ages as Bardic meeting places. The first annual 'modern' Gorsedd meeting was held here in 1928 with another in 1978".
