Item: Penzance Promenade from Battens Wharf during a storm.
Description: A view of Penzance Promenade probably taken during the November 1916 gales. In the early 20th century a number of exceptional gales were noted in "Saundry's Almanac of 1939" in Penzance: 12 November 1915 - Terrific gale with much damage; November 1916 - Continuous SE gales, considerable damage along sea front; November 1929 - exceptional heavy gales. The railings in view to the right of the picture were installed in 1896 and Public Baths at the end of the Promenade were built in 1887.
