Item: The St Just Bus, entering Penzance.
Description: A photograph depicting a two horse omnibus on the side of which the words ST JUST TO PENZANCE indicates that this is a regular passenger service between the two western most towns in Cornwall. The carriage is seen entering Penzance along Alverton Road adjacent to the plot of land now occupied by the Rosmellyn Surgery but formerly the location of Trevear House. The large double fronted granite house seen behind the carriage is No 7 Alverton Road which is now occupied by the Alverton Surgery. In 1891, this was the home of 84 year-old Mary St Aubyn and her three sisters Johnanna (80), Martha (80) and Hebe (76). The double fronted house beyond this is No 8 Alverton Road at the time occupied by 58 year-old William Dodge, retired surgeon and General Practitioner, his wife Charity (62) and their two daughters. On the opposite side of the road (out of view) stood Bellair House which was destroyed in WWII.
