Item: First and Last Hotel, Sennen.
Description: This photograph is taken from a grassy area opposite the Hotel, with well dressed adults and children posing for the camera. The Hotel sign on the right of the building announces it as 'The First Hotel in England' and the sign on the left corner of the building says 'Last' on one side and 'First' on the other. Sennen church is in the background. The original inn, believed to be 15th century, was the first en route from Lands End and the last going there, hence the name. It is thought to have been used by smugglers and had a reputation for hosting a brawl a night. There are stories of ghosts too. Thomas and Margaret Toman, landlords of the First and Last Inn ran it with the help of their three daughters.
