Identification

Item: Quakers' Burial Ground, Brea, Nr Sennen, Cornwall

Description: This photograph has the signpost to Sennen & Lands End (to the left), and Penzance (to the right) in the foreground and the wall of the Quakers burial ground to the right. The Quaker or Friends' Burial Ground is located 1.5 miles east of Sennen Church Town where the roads from Penzance and St Just meet in a fork. The ground is so named because of the proximity to the nearby Brea Farm. A quadrangular wall, 54 ft by 46 ft encloses the site. There is no gateway or opening into the site which is set apart from any buildings or habitation, but within the wall adjacent to the St Just road are two upright granite posts indicating where an entrance once existed. Now, projecting stones on either side of the wall provide the only means of access. Set within the exterior of the wall is a slate tablet with the words ...'Friends' Burial Ground - Brea in which 36 interments took place between the years 1659-1789.
