Item: The Old Arch, Hick's Court, St Ives
Description: A photograph taken through the Old Arch, Hick's Court, off the Digey St Ives, towards three ladies facing away from the camera. The arch formerly led to the house of the Hick's family. Matthews History of St Ives 1892 records that "it had evidently been in past times an imposing structure, as was seen by the mullioned bay windows with square hood moulding, at the corners of which were the letters GH for George Hicks.... The dining room had a vaulted ceiling. Underneath the house was a secret smuggling cave or cellar".
