Item: Egyptian House, Chapel Street, Penzance
Description: A photograph of the Egyptian House, with the name 'Knuckey' above the window on the right hand side and a 'To let' sign in the window on the left. The adjoining shop to the left has a sign, Agent for Pullars Dye Works, Perth. All of the windows in the Egyptian House have the blinds closed. The Egyptian House was built for the PZ merchant Lavin in the 1830s and may have been designed by John Foulston, a Plymouth architect, although it does not appear in either his water colours of 1835 or his book 'Public Buildings in the West' of 1838.
