Item: Newlyn Harbour and preshore
Description: A view of Newlyn Harbour towards Newlyn Old Slip and the Strand from North Pier at low tide, with luggers dried out on moorings. From left to right of the photograph: Paul Sail Maker; a Hulk sailing vessel which was probably a coal hulk for the steam drifters; Newlyn Arts Industry building which delivered Newlyn Industrial Classes (copper) established in 1890 and 'Pearson' taught here from 1892 to c. 1894/95; a Cutter rigged vessel probably a trawl smack, moored of the end of The Strand; and the lugger at the far right of the picture is PZ240 'Richard & James 43' which was owned by John Allen and Grace Hichens, Newlyn between 1876-97 when it was sold to George Jenkin until broken up in 1908.
