Item: Lowestoft Sailing Drifters Moored in Gwavas Lake, before the building of Newlyn Harbour.
Description: Mounts Bay looking from Newlyn towards Penzance before Newlyn Harbour was built. The identifiable mackerel drifters include: LT192 'Aerie' (1875-1893); LT 548 'William & Edward' (1877-1887); LT297 'Arizona' (1883-1912); LT 46 'Halcyon' (1884-1901); or possibly 'Hosannas' (1877-1883). Newlyn South Pier was built 1885-86; the North Pier in 1888 and extended in 1894.
