Item: Plymouth trawler 'Ida PH 293' in Penzance Harbour.
Description: The Plymouth trawler 'Ida PH 293' showing her anchor winch, trawl winch, trawl hanging up to dry and the companion way to the cabin and trawl beam. In the background a large fleet of coasting schooners are drying their sails, which was essential to prevent mildew. The trawl smack 'Ida' was built in Penzance by M. Matthews, shipbuilder, in 1866 and registered in Penzance as PZ 14. She was 56.7ft registered length (so about 61ft overall) with 15.5ft beam and measured 31.40 tons. On 15.8.1874 she was registered in Plymouth as PH293. When registered in Plymouth, her owner was Samuel Brown of Penzance, master mariner. Other owners included a printer and stationer and a painter and glazier. She was broken up in 1889.
