Item: St Keverne Church, following the wreck of the 'Mohegan'.
Description: A photograph of St Keverne Church with men removing a coffin brought from the wreck of the 'Mohegan'. The SS Mohegan of the Atlantic Transport Line left London for New York on 13 October 1898. Between 6.30pm and 7pm the following evening, she struck the Manacles. Only two lifeboats were launched before she sank. One boat capsized. 50 were saved from the lifeboats and ships rigging, many by the Porthoustock Lifeboat; 106 men, women and children were lost. The bodies were collected at St Keverne Church where many were buried in a mass grave. The Shipping Company erected a memorial window at St Keverne Church.
