Identification
Item: Merthenwy Cross, Wendron, Nr Helston, Cornwall.
Description: At grid reference SW 7033 2931, stands Merthenwy (or possibly Mertheruny Cross) which is from within an Iron/Romano age settlement with a chapel. The cross head is rounded at the top and has 4 circular holes. It is a plain cross with a small boss to the right; a similar one is found in Roche. First recorded in 1872 on the site of an ancient chapel, it fell down regularly, probably because graveyards are not stable. It was re-erected in 1896 and 1968.
