Item: Lanherne Cross, near St Mawgan, Cornwall.
Description: A photograph of Lanheine Cross in the grounds at Lanherne Convent at St Mawgan in Pydar. It is a scheduled monument: 1020866. Land at Lanherne was given to Cluniac Monks in the 11th century by the Arundell family who came to Britain with William the Conqueror. The old Arundell Manor House and Chapel were given to Carmelite nuns who had escaped the French Revolution in 1794. In the 19th century, this 9th century cross with curvilinear designs was removed from Arundell land near St Gwinear's well at Roseworthy and placed in the grounds of Lanherne Convent at St Mawgan for safekeeping.
