Item: Cross and Stone Basin, Wendron Old Graveyard, Mertheruny, Cornwall
Description: At grid reference SW7033 2931, the Cross and Stone Basin in the Wendron Old Graveyard stands at just over 5ft in height, with a width of nearly 16" and a depth of just over 10". Made of carnmenellis granite, in 2017, the cross is 'in one piece' although partially buried and obscured. It is a rectangular cross with roll-moulding at the neck, rounded head with straight sides; straight staff and the cross head has four irregular circular holes. Dating to post-Norman times, perhaps marking the foundation of a chapel on this site. It has been repaired in 1896 and 1968.
