Item: Penzance Docks in the 1970s
Description: The Boston Beverley GY191 is pictured at Penzance during the mackerel boom of the 1970s. She was completed in 1971 by Richard Dunstan of Hessle for Boston Deep Sea Trawlers. She was the first deep sea trawler to box all of her catch. She was 150' long, powered by a 1450 hp English Electric engine. With a crew of 23 her home port was Grisby. As Iceland, Faroe and Norway extended their territorial waters, this kind of trawler had nowhere to fish, so they came to Cornwall for mackerel. In 1979 she was sold to Chile, taken over by the Chilean Navy in 2005 and wrecked in the Magellan Strait.
