Identification
Item: Looking from Newlyn towards Penzance and the Lizard on a Summer's day
Description: The land in the foreground is The Bowjey, common land given for the fishermen of Newlyn Town to dry their nets; it was also used to tether animals and to dry washing. North Pier is in the centre of the picture with South Pier to the left. Sandy Cove in the bottom right corner was a rocky beach which was infilled to allow the transportation of rocks from Penlee Quarry to the coast, first on trams and then on a conveyor belt. The road to Mousehole had to be closed at mid-day for a few moments for this and a siren would sound to signal the closure.
