Identification
Item: A dredger, probably at Hayle, 1911
Description: Postcard of a dredger, probably Hayle, postmarked Hayle 1911. The image appears to have been taken at St Erth Valley adjacent to Battery Mills. The valley would have been rich with minerals as the river would have carried tailings from the numerous mines which worked over the centuries, from Wheal Vor at Carleen, Wheal Binner at Leedstown, then all the way down to St Erth via Townsend, Godolphin, Germoe, St Hilary and Rellibbus. The dredger was constructed on dry land which later flooded, when she then floated to go about her work.
Condition: Fair - small tear on upper edge, crease marks and worn edges, also rather dirty
