A space for all

Built in 1865, as the home of the Branwell family. Penlee House is home to many paintings by members of the Newlyn School. It is also home to the Penzance Natural History and Antiquarian Society collection.

Item: A Charles Breaker painting of a painting at Newlyn

Description: During the 1960s, artist Charles Breaker together with Marjorie Mort and Edward Hillier ran a summer art school based on Newlyn's Old Quay. A vibrant, exciting artist, Charles Breaker painted with vitality and vivacity. The artist's easel pictured here is typical of his genre. His home overlooked Penzance Harbour and he was a familiar sight around the town with his white hair and beautiful cardigans.
