Identification
Item: Portreath Beach
Description: Children appear to be playing beach cricket on the sands at Portreath. The sea is calm, but the dress would suggest a rather chilly day out of season. To the right is Gull Rock and the inlet in the middle of the shot is known as the cheese due to its resemblance to a wedge of cheese. The Bassetts of Tehidy owned the rights to this part of the beach where they had their own harbour and beach house with swimming pools for the family blasted into the rock. On the other side of the beach was the harbour owned by the Grenvilles, mine owners in Troon near Camborne from where they could watch the sea traffic.
