A space for all

Built in 1865, as the home of the Branwell family. Penlee House is home to many paintings by members of the Newlyn School. It is also home to the Penzance Natural History and Antiquarian Society collection.

Item: The aftermath of the wreck of the Sarah Anna Evans, 1932

Description: The wreck of the Sarah Anna Evans. In the aftermath of the wreck on 30 October 1932, wreckers get to work. The hull has completely gone to pieces leaving a tangle of wreckage and the engine block. A young man leans over the engine block looking for salvageable pieces. An older man appears to be holding a pair of long handled cutters, liberating bits from the tangled remains.
