Item: The inscribed stone at Gulval
Description: Standing near the Bleu Bridge footbridge in Barlowena Bottoms, Gulval, the stone is 1.7 m (5.5ft) high and inscribed QVENATAVCI IC DINVI FILIVS : Quenataucus, the son of Dinuus, (lies) here. These are Irish names suggesting that Penwith was a centre of commerce and travel during what is known as the Dark Age. The inscription is 6th century. The stone used to be used as a footbridge over the stream.
