Identification
Item: Part of Boscaswell Downs Mine.
Description: This photograph was taken sometime after the turn of the last century, as Pendeen lighthouse which was built in 1891 and commissioned in 1900 is in view to the right. Trinity House Buildings are to the left and a number of unidentified men appear to pose for the camera around the shaft. The mine included 27 shafts on 20 different lodes. The shaft shown could be sunk on Simms Lode, which ran from about Springs Mine, down past Portheras. Boscaswell United was formed in 1907. Sylvanus Trevains came across an old shaft in about this location when working Simms Lode in the 1980s.
