Identification
Item: Foolish Dick
Description: This is rather a serious portrait etching of an apparently small, poor man whose trade was that of an ostler. The nickname "Foolish Dick" seems cruel in the 21st century, but nineteenth century culture and attitudes were different. Every community had its 'fool' but that does not mean the fools were not cared for.
