Identification
Item: A parade in Market Jew Street in the early 20th century
Description: The crowds and the band would suggest a festive parade on a summer's day in the early years of the 20th century. The flags over the Borough Arms may give a clue as to the occasion. Levin's shop was demolished and a Young Men's Christian Association Hostel opened on this site on 14 June 1921. Since then the premises have been demolished and rebuilt again. The small building appears to be a barber's shop, with an alleyway to Wharf Road and was the Borough Arms Foundry (1772 - 1883.) The site was later purchased by N Holman's who developed a business repairing cycles and motorcycles, etc.
