Identification
Item: Perrow's Temperance Hotel in Chapel Street, Penzance which became the Regent Hotel
Description: This is a an image taken before a two storey yard extension was added to the left of the main facade in the early 20th century. It seems to have been built as a private house as it has no entry for carriages such as formerly existed at the Union Hotel. It is believed to have been the home of the Batten family, bankers in Penzance. John Batten was the Mayor of Penzance for twelve terms between 1793 and 1843. There is an account of Perrow's Temperance Hotel in 'Views and Reviews' 1896 where it is described as having enjoyed an enviable reputation for years past. Mr Perrow was still the proprietor in 1890. The proprietors in 1896 were Mr and Mrs Bray. By 1913 it had become the Regent Hotel, proprietor Robert Thomas.
