Item: Penzance luggers in the Isles of Scilly
Description: Photograph showing a collection of luggers near the Isles of Scilly. One has the Penzance code on its sail. The steam launch left is probably Dorrien Smith's, the boat on the right is PZ48 Mizpah 45.6 ft, 18 tons, owned by R.Kitto & son, Penzance, skipper Edward Richards 1901-07, then sold to Shoreham. Above PZ48 on the sail is PZ39, which suggests the sail was second hand, as the PZ39 was the 42ft Hope, built in 1869 or before, broken up for firewood in 1898. She was originally PE registered.
Condition: Good - dog-eared bottom left; surface dirt, especially at right-hand edge.
