A space for all

Built in 1865, as the home of the Branwell family. Penlee House is home to many paintings by members of the Newlyn School. It is also home to the Penzance Natural History and Antiquarian Society collection.

Item: The Branwell family at Porthcurno beach

Description: A photograph of the Branwell family at Porthcurno beach, on a picnic outing. On the back line is (left to right) Alfred Branwell (son of JR Branwell) Edith Gage and Beatrice Gage (first cousins of Isabel Branwell once removed, nicknamed 'E' and 'B'. Their father's mother was Elizabeth, nee Tregurtha, Annie Dennis's sister.) Seated is the Governess, Miss Griffith ('Diffy'), Isabel, Vera and Edward Branwell, daughter-in-law and grandchildren of JR Branwell, who lived at Penlee House. In front sits an unidentified child, who is not Sybil Branwell.
