A space for all

Built in 1865, as the home of the Branwell family. Penlee House is home to many paintings by members of the Newlyn School. It is also home to the Penzance Natural History and Antiquarian Society collection.

Identification

Item: Full length charcoal drawing of a young nude woman, sitting (untitled)

Description: A full length charcoal drawing of a young nude woman, sitting on a cloth draped box with her back on view. Her forearms rest on her knees and there is light back shading. On the reverse side of the paper is a drawing of an elderly woman, looking to the left. She wears a bun in her hair and there is back shading. The paper used is of a darker shade and larger size than PEZPH : 2006.3-10.

Condition: Fair - bottom right-hand corner has been torn off and the bottom left-hand corner is bent inwards. The top right-hand corner is slightly torn and has a small stain on it. Three or four small holes in each corner and mispoint along the edges, from previous use. On the bottom half of the drawing and where the model's head is drawn, crease marks are evident.
