Item: Dr Syntax's Head
Description: Dr Syntax's head at Lands End, one of many images of the Penzance area taken by Robert Preston and contained within an album. Dr Syntax was a henpecked, simple-minded clergyman created by William Combe to accompany a series of coloured illustrations by Thomas Rowlandson. His adventures are told in eight syllabled verse in The Three Tours of Dr Syntax published in 1812, 1820 and 1821.
