Item: The Wreck of the Alba
Description: M V Alba has been wrecked off Porthmeor Beach, St Ives. She was a 3,700 ton vessel bound for Civita, Italy from Barry with a cargo of coal. St Ives Lifeboat wreck Caroline Parsons can be seen lying on the rocks. The lifeboat had capsized on return to the shore after rescuing 24 members of the steamer M.V Alba which had run aground. The engine was damaged and the lifeboat wrecked. All but 4 members of the Alba crew survived. A number of the lifeboat crew received R.N.L.I medals. Groups of people stand around the wreckage.
