Item: The 'Sandrunner' aground at Porthmeor Beach, St Ives, 1950
Description: On 31 May 1950, the Goole coaster, 'Sandrunner' carrying coal from Barry Dock to Hayle ran aground in thick fog at Porthmeor Beach, St Ives. The St Ives LSA fired a breeches buoy over the ship, but the crew stayed aboard as it was calm. She was towed off the same evening by the St Ives lifeboat and the long liner Moss Rose.
