Item: HMS Ocean in Mounts Bay
Description: HMS Ocean in Mounts Bay. She was the fifth ship called Ocean to be built for the British Royal Navy. She served in the Korean War and during the Suez crisis. A Colussus aircraft carrier, her keel was laid in 1942; she was built by Alexander Stephen and Sons in Glasgow; she weighed 13,190 tons; she was launched in 1945 and scrapped in 1962. The first landing of a purely jet powered aircraft was made on 4 December 1945 by Eric Winkle Brown flying a Sea Vampire.
