Item: Trinity House vessel Patrica in Penzance dock
Description: According to Lloyds Register, register number 311111, the Patricia was built in 1938 by Smith's Dock Company, South Bank, Middlesborough, Teeside. She weighed 1116 tonnes and was owned by Trinity House. Winston Churchill spent time on the ship during WWll. The Patricia took part in the evacuation of Dunkirk and in 1944 was part of the first line of ships during the D Day landing at Normandy. After the war she became the temporary royal yacht until the Britannia was ready. During 1952, the new Queen Elizabeth used her as her own private yacht. She lived on board and entertained the world's elite during the 1952 Olympics in Finland. In 1982 the Patricia was sold to a company in Sweden: in 1983 she was converted into a floating restaurant in Stockholm.
