Item: A crowd gathers to watch the St Ives lifeboat being towed across Harbour Beach
Description: The lifeboat is being recovered at low tide, probably after a practice.The lifeboat house is above the opposite side of the beach so the Edgar George Orland and Eva Child had to be towed by tractor with caterpillar tracks into the water. The Edgar George Orlando and Eva Child was a twin screw Liverpool type lifeboat serving at St Ives for 20 years from 1948. It performed 116 services, saving 61 lives. Her most famous rescue was rescuing a family who were trapped by the tide in a cave near Hell's Mouth.
