Item: The Coverack Lifeboat William Taylor being launched
Description: The crew, in full weatherproof gear and life jackets, are huddled around the cockpit. The masthead light is illuminated. The William Taylor was stationed at Coverack from 24 July 1954, the first of ten 42' Watson motor lifeboats built for the RNLI between 1954 and 1962. A slipway boat, she is pictured here probably soon after delivery. She has a flush deck fore and aft with slightly raised bulwarks at bow and stern. She has a main mast and a smaller mizzen with radio aerials running between the two. The engine room canopy is moulded with fairly hard angles between the sides and roof. There is no class or type number painted on the side of this canopy. In 1965 she had a wheelhouse added.
