Identification
Item: Seaweed collection from Marazion Beach to enrich the soil of nearby farms
Description: Chris James, who worked for Johnny Uren in his market garden at Long Rock between Pleming and Botreva, is seen here driving a E.A. Hosking tractor load of seaweed from Marazion Beach. Seaweed was a most valued soil additive because it contains Nitrogen, Potash, Potassium, amino acids and trace elements. It is an excellent activator for compost. It does not add much bulk to the soil but the alginates in it help to bind soil crumbs together.
