Item: Checking the crayfish
Description: The large tank is a holding pots for live shellfish, which were caught all around the Cornish and Scilly coasts. It was normally kept moored underwater in Newlyn Harbour. Pictured is a catch of crawfish. The fish are being checked for any weak fish. A French Vessel, the Plomarch from Roscoff, called regularly to take away the whole live catch for distribution on the continent.
