A space for all

Built in 1865, as the home of the Branwell family. Penlee House is home to many paintings by members of the Newlyn School. It is also home to the Penzance Natural History and Antiquarian Society collection.

Item: Retirement presentation to Mr Tom Ninnis at the Borough of Penzance yard, Penzance

Description: A group shot of the retirement presentation to Mr Tom Ninnis, by Mr Leslie Chapple, the works superintendent at the works yard and offices of the then Borough of Penzance, known as "The Town Yard", situated on the right side of Mount Street, Penzance. The houses in the background are in Penwith Street, Penzance. The person on the far left in the front row is William Derek Harvey (from Mousehole) known as 'Tarbrush' and Mr William T. Harvey is fifth from left in the same row. The man on the far right, with his dinner bag on his left shoulder is Mr Stanley Maclary; Mr Fred Allen is second from right and it may be Mr William Reginald (Reg) Curtis, the road sweeper, who is fourth from right. Mr Jim Nicholls is in the second row down and second from the right (in a cap). The man to the left of the back row is Mr Harold Carr (in sunglasses) and it may be Mr Thomas who is fourth from the left in the second row back. Mr Sam Chinner is in the middle row, second from the left. The pillar with the gate hanging on it behind Mr Maclary is one of the gate pillars leading on to Penwith Street, Penzance.
