Description: This photograph was taken on the forecourt of St John's Hall, Penzance, of Lord Lieutenant Sir Edward Bolitho, inspecting the 12 police sergeants in the parade following the presentation of the British Empire Medal to Police Constable 317 Godfrey Matthews. From Left to Right: Lord Lieutenant Sir Edward Bolitho; behind him is Chief Constable of Cornwall Constabulary Major E. Hare. The 12 sergeants were in the rear rank of the parade. The building in the background with the white band is Alfred Smith's, below which is the chimney stack and roof of Swans wool and toy shop.
